Senior Infrastructure Engineer

About this role:

The Data Center Hosting Engineer is responsible for planning and managing the critical space, power distribution, and cooling resources to maintain and optimize Wells Fargo data centers. This individual must be capable of making sound decisions in the absence of detailed instruction with a focus to document,  manage and forecast space , power, and cooling  requirements.  They will participate in and complete deliverables for several projects at the same time while ensuring accuracy and high-quality work is being delivered daily.  They must be able to work independently or as part of a multi-disciplined Data Center Management team, leveraging relationships and cross functional resources.

In this role, you will:

• Maintain detailed floor plans for data halls and all other DCM managed spaces.
• Plan and design data center infrastructure technology deployments to meet technology forecasts and demand in accordance to engineering standards and resiliency requirements.
• Plan and document power distribution infrastructure usage and manage consumption thresholds to ensure availability, resiliency and efficiency of distribution.
• Develop and maintain future state models of data halls for use in computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models.
• Compare data hall thermal rejection measurements against engineering designs to ensure proper operation and to meet resiliency and availability requirements.
• Advise and consult data center engineers and data center leadership on space, power, and cooling impacts of technology deployments.
• Participate in infrastructure audits and risk assessments and develop plans to remediate identified issues.
• Develop standardized engineering templates to be used for the rapid deployment of structured cabling systems using technical standards.
• Provide input into detailed financial analysis in the areas of competitive cost, life cycle cost analysis and estimating.
• Use verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with technology partners and teammates, as well as lines of business representatives.
• Build effective partnerships across organizations with integrity, a customer-focus, and personal excellence.
• Be proficient in standard software tools used to create engineering drawings, schematics and specification documents (AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint). Experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools such as Nlyte or similar software.
• Possesses an in-depth understanding of data center mechanical and electrical systems and their impact on data center infrastructure design.
• Possesses  an advanced understanding of telecommunications network design, including an understanding of network design, topology and protocols.
• Partners with facility managers and data center managers to resolve issues and optimize processes and reduce risks.
• Manages capacity data and reports on data center capacities.

Required Qualifications:

• 5 years of designing and planning technology deployments into mission critical data centers.
• 3+ years experience in network design or support
• 3+ years of experience with engineering power distribution within a data center/mission critical environment.
• 3+ years of experience with engineering mechanical systems within a data center/mission critical environment
• 3+ years of experience with data center space planning including power and airflow optimization.

Required Qualifications for Europe, Middle East & Africa only:

• Experience in Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

• Ability to understand plans and strategies of technology partners and translate into data center requirements.
• Must be capable of making sound decisions in the absence of detailed instruction and maintain management policies, standards and guidelines designed to protect our most valuable IT assets.
• Demonstrated experience in the design and build of data center infrastructure; structured cabling systems and network technologies.
• Portrays maturity within the team by taking initiative in seeking solutions and proactively resolving potential issues.
• Inspires the cooperation and confidence of others and effectively uses influence to achieve  quality planning, accurate forecasting and strategic focus.
• Exhibits strong organizational skills and sets an example for others.

Job Expectations:

• Spends a lot of time designing data center space, power,  and airflow optimization, by leveraging his extensive knowledge of data center equipment (server, storage, network, mainframe).
• Regularly provides strategic guidance to internal platform planning, implementation teams and vendors.
• Partners with site management resources to train and guide in technology placement and connectivity.
• Portrays maturity within the team by taking initiative in seeking solutions and proactively resolving potential issues.
