Development Manager -zAIOps Development

IntroductionThe IBM mainframe (Z Systems) is responsible for most credit card transactions and is used by the many of the top insurers, banks, retailers, and airlines. IBM z/OS® is an operating system with highly secure and scalable hypervisor and virtualization technology designed to run Linux®, z/OS®, z/VSE® and z/TPF virtual machines as well as Red Hat® OpenShift® on IBM zSystems™ and IBM LinuxONE servers. z/OS provides a highly secure and scalable environment for efficiently running critical Linux applications, with support for more Linux virtual servers than any other platform in a single footprint.The z/OS team is a worldwide team, primarily located in Poughkeepsie, NY with expansion plans in Bangalore, India. All phases of the software life cycle are performed within this team, including the design, development, test, performance, as well as supporting the product in the field with customers. Agile methodologies are used throughout the life cycle. We are looking for qualified development manager candidates to be part of our IBM Z Software organisation, specially in the areas of zAIOps. Key Skills include People Management, Project / Release Management, Customer Engagement and driving organisation initiatives.

Your Role and Responsibilities

• As an Engineering Manager, you will primarily be responsible for driving the team focussed on developing/enhancing, testing, and supporting z/OS simplification and Modernisation Strategy for the IBM Z systems.zOS Platform management related to network congifuration assistant, Open Telemetry, Analyser and other new development related to IO configuration, simplification and modernisation actitivties.
• You would be expected to work closely with partner lab and development team with a joint and end-to-end ownership of the product development, managing delivery schedules and assure highest quality release with maximum exploiter/customer satisfaction.Additionally, collaborate with relevant stakeholders including research, development, sales, offering, marketing teams to ensure product is amply highlightedAs a People Manager, you have to focus on Employee engagement, Growth, Skill building, Innovation and well-being
• End to End responsibility of product delivery and release by applying Design Thinking & Agile practices in product design, development, test & support
• Define work schedules and track task assignment for the team and clear roadblocks and risks to enable product delivery
• Bring in efficiencies in the process/product methodologies, hiring and retaining highly talented engineers
• Work with peer Managers, Product Owners, Architects, stakeholders, etc. to share/apply best practices at increasing efficiency and showcase status of the project to senior management and Executives
• Create an environment for collaboration and high performing culture that is required to make this multi-site development team successful
• Motivate the team in applying processes and best practices in delivering great user experience and quality products for IBM’s Server Systems
• Ensure Business Compliance and Integrity is maintained across the team

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Required Technical and Professional Expertise with relevant experience of 10-20 years:

• Atleast 15 years of hands-on technical IT industry experience preferably in the area of Systems product R&D
• Has led a technical team and been part of their talent & career development. Good problem solver – technical solutions as well as conflict resolution
• Familiar with Enterprise Server (Unix/Linux) Operating System (advantage if familiar with IBM Z Systems as a consumer or user)
• Has had technical exposure/experience on areas spanning across kernel, scheduler, memory mgmt, compilers, toolchain, virtualization/hypervisor, systems management, performance, security, etc.
• Strong understanding of Virtualization, AI, Cloud and Operating System (working experience with z/OS, Firmware, Diagnostics, Cloud , Networking, end-to-end Release Management skills)
• Familiar with tools to track project & defect progress (RQM, RTC, Clear Quest, Best Quest, github, Jupyter, Jira, Trello, etc.)
• Associated with automation including scripting (shell, python, perl, ansible), integration into frameworks (Robot, Jenkins, etc.), and applied CI/CT approaches
• Adopted Agile, DevOps, and Design Thinking methodologies at work
• Proven ability to work effectively in a global team environment, forming & managing multiple projects across geographies
• Proven command over the English language, both written and verbal

• Candidates having Systems exposure and especially with IBM Z/Mainframe Systems are preferred
