Team Lead – Energy & Engineering

As an Team Lead working on a variety of projects for the Gulf region, you will be responsible for team leadership, development and management. This will involve ensuring engineering team and junior team members are adhering to delivery standards and ensures essential procedures are followed in line with company QA/QC procedures. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating mechanical systems and equipment.

The successful individual uses discretion within set boundaries (operating procedures, processes, standards) to execute their own tasks, and effectively delegate others to achieve defined deadlines / targets in the most effective and efficient way. You will be required to coordinate activities across a multi-disciplinary environment to meet deadlines, ensure quality and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with the UAE Energy and Engineering leaders to execute and implement a strategic roadmap for Energy and Engineering operations in India, aligning it with the PDS businesses overall objectives.
  • Identify opptortunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation to drive efficiency gains and cost optimization.

Team Management:

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of shared services professionals, ensuring appropriate training, development, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.

Process Optimization:

  • Analyze existing shared services processes and systems to identify areas for optimization and implement best practices.
  • Streamline and automate workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Continuously monitor service performance metrics and implement corrective actions as required.

Service Delivery and Stakeholder Management:

  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of shared services to internal stakeholders, meeting or exceeding service level agreements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, understanding their requirements and effectively managing expectations.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Stay updated on relevant legal and regulatory requirements related to shared services operations in India.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls, compliance procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.

Quality and Operational Excellence:

  • Implement and maintain project management best practices, processes, and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Continuously assess and improve project delivery methodologies and strategies.
  • Drive operational excellence, identify process inefficiencies, and implement improvement initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Financial control of projects ensuring they are delivered at, or under budget.
  • Regular performance reviews and career development of key team members
  • Represent the company on project meetings, both internal and external, ensuring seamless project delivery across multi-region team.
  • Perform lead engineer duties on a variety of projects, responsible for management of time and resources to effectively deliver projects.
  • Monitor project progress, timelines, and budgets, and provide technical guidance and support to the team.
  • Create detailed designs, specifications, and drawings for mechanical systems and equipment, considering factors such as feasibility, efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Use computer-aided design (CAD) software and other tools to create and test prototypes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to manage projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Monitor project progress, timelines, and budgets, and provide technical guidance and support to the team.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, procedures, manuals, and reports. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and clarity of documentation for future reference and audits.
  • Ensure high quality and timely delivery of Building Services Engineering Design.
  • Undertake reviews and proper QA/QC procedures for all projects.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects, teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Provide technical support in diagnosing and resolving MEP issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during design, construction, and operation. Identify and mitigate potential risks, hazards, or environmental impacts associated with mechanical systems.
  • When required - oversee testing, inspection, and commissioning activities to ensure the proper functionality of MEP systems and equipment. Conduct performance tests, troubleshoot issues, and make adjustments as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or building services engineering (or similar).
  •  12 - 15 years of experience, with significant experience in a team leadership role.
  • Professional license or registration such as CEng, PEng (or similar).
  • Demonstrable experience for project cost and programme controls including change control.
  • Proven experience as an MEP Engineer, preferably with a focus on UAE projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of local regulations and authority requirements, such as DM, ADM, and UAE FIRE CODE. In-depth knowledge of relevant international codes and standards
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with relevant and latest industry software and technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in BIM, Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, HAP, CIBSE pipe sizing tools, etc.
  • Draws on technical knowledge and experience and information / specification received to develop the most effective and efficient solution for less standard or routine problems with a prescribed outcome.

People Management:

  • Allocates tasks, checks work, and coordinates / supervises the daily activities of full project delivery across a full multi-disciplinary team.
  • Providing feedback on their performance, via annual reviews and similar, including identifying training requirements and other opportunities to improve productivity.
  • Responsible for planning resourcing requirements for all projects including cost forecasts for discussion with senior management. Provide guidance and on the job training to all members of staff.
