Zonal Manager - Underwriting
| Job Purpose | “This position is open with Bajaj Finance ltd.”Implement underwriting policies/ processes for Salaried Loans (Prime and Non-Prime) in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, with an aim to maintain portfolio quality, correctly assess risks, maintain efficiency in process and at the same time strive to balance the business growth objectives. |
| Duties and Responsibilities | 1. Underwriting strategy and planning Understand the underwriting strategy and guidelines shared by the central Underwriting team. Address and align on any regional nuances and provisions. Cascade to the team and ensure understanding. Speak to Sales and Collections teams and meet competitors to understand market nuances and best practices. Share insights and suggestions with central Underwriting team. Also share insights on competitors’ portfolio performance and best practices with Sales and Collections teams. Keep abreast of any changes in government policies and laws. Analyze need for changes in underwriting guidelines as well as portfolio mix and share with respective stakeholders.2. Underwriting execution Conduct training of Credit Managers on underwriting strategy and guidelines. Ensure that they are constantly updated and aware of any changes in guidelines. Guide and review the team on underwriting of Business Loans proposals. Assess performance quality, team productivity, identify areas of gaps and plan/monitor actions with the team. Personally review and underwrite loan proposals >INR 30 Lakhs. Provide support to the Collections team by sharing key information/ insights gained at the time of underwriting the delinquent loans.3. Portfolio management Constantly monitor the portfolio quality of Business Loans to identify issues, trends and insights. Where corrective action is required, share with the Risk Team. Also share insights and recommendations with the Sales Team. Participate in monthly and quarterly reviews with supervisor to discuss portfolio quality and identify necessary actions. 4. Team Management and Coaching Participate in selection process to identify the right talent for positions within the team Determine individual training needs and development plans to build expertise and enhance sales skills in the team Set objectives, conduct reviews and close appraisal processes for the team as per timelines4. MAJOR CHALLENGES(Challenges faced on an on-going basis in carrying out the job) There is a constant need to balance the company’s aggressive growth aspirations against the risk appetite, which becomes very challenging. The work environment is very dynamic and demanding. Motivating and retaining people at junior levels is a challenge. Different markets have different local nuances. It becomes challenging to apply these nuances and also ensure that underwriting guidelines from the central team recognize these nuances. |
