Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience in policy analysis and campaigns, working on technology issues or the policy environments that surround them.
- 7 years of experience working within government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporate public policy organizations.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in policy analysis and campaigns, technology issues or the policy environments that surround them.
- Experience working with or in government agencies, industry associations, think tanks focused on privacy and security issues, engaging with Indian government officials on policy matters.
- Understanding of India's legal and regulatory landscape concerning privacy, data protection, cybersecurity.
- Familiarity with global privacy frameworks and standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and emerging technologies and their implications for privacy and security (e.g., AI, cloud computing).
- Ability to influence stakeholders, drive consensus on complex policy issues, and effectively manage multiple projects while keeping senior leadership informed.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.
In this role, you will analyze the privacy and security landscape in India, shape Google's stance on key issues, and partner with internal teams to ensure compliance with local needs and Google’s business objectives. You will support senior leadership by keeping them informed to effectively engage with high-level government officials, while also building and maintaining relationships with relevant industry experts and associations.
Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy and security, assessing their potential impact on Google's products and operations in India.
- Develop and advocate for Google's positions on key privacy and security issues, aligning them with our principles while incorporating India's specific market needs.
- Partner with Legal, Product, and other relevant teams to provide expert guidance on privacy and security policy matters, ensuring responsible product development and compliance with evolving/upcoming regulations.
- Provide insightful analysis and recommendations to senior leadership on policy developments and emerging risks, enabling informed decision-making on Google's India strategy.
- Support senior leadership in cultivating and managing relationships with key stakeholders such as government officials, regulators, industry experts, and civil society organizations to foster dialogue and collaboration on relevant policy issues.
